      22 Sep 1933 - Prominent Sabine Pioneer Expired at Age of 83 YearsFollowing Useful Life.

      Florien and Sabine parish was saddened last Friday when James M. Leach,age 83, died at the home of his daughter Mrs. L. F. McLanahan in Florien.

      Until his recent illness, Mr. Leach made his home with a daughter, Mrs.H. Rookstool of Florien; after the illness from which he never recovered,he moved with an elder daughter Mrs. McLanahan.

      Funeral services were at prospect church, where the remains were interredbeside his spouse who passed away in 1903. Pallbearers were sixgrandsons, Amos McLanahan, Milford, R. T., C. D., Fred, and Selby Leach.Great nieces aided with the floral offerings.

      Mr. Leach was born in Alabama in 1850, was married to Miss Nancy Francisin 1871. They made their home in and near Florien until the death ofMrs. Leach. To the union were born seven children, five of whom survive;Mrs. L. F. McLanahan, Mrs. H. Rookstool, of Florien; W. G. Leach, Dess,E.C. Leach, Ft. Jesup, and J. E. Leach of Natchitoches. A brother, N. F.Leach, and sister, Mrs. Clabe Stroud, both of Florien survive as does twohalf sisters, Mrs. William Gandy, Mrs. Rosie Woodle, and a half-brother,J. Lonnie Leach, all of Mt. Carmel.

      Deceased joined the Baptist church some 70 years ago, was a charter emberof Antioch and Florien churches, a member of the Masonic order some 60years, and a member of the Order of Eastern Star. For more than 40 yearshe was engaged in the mercantile business, and during the greater part ofthat time was a prosperous farmer for a number of years, alwaysprogressive and active in public affairs.
