    • ERWIN MONTGOMERY MARRIED SARAH HIATT BEFORE THEY CAME TO CARROLL COUNTY IN 1805. ERWIN PURCHASED 150 ACRESOF LAND ADJOINING FAMILIES BELL AND HIATT IN 1805; PURCHASED THE WILLIAM DALTON FARM IN 1811; AND SOMETIME LATER AN ADDITIONAL 45 ACRES FROM ZACHARIAH STANLEY AND 41 ACRES BY GRANT. ERWIN MONTGOMERY WAS ACTIVE IN CARROLL COLUNTY AFFAIRS AS APPRAISER OR COMMISSIONER SEVERAL TIMES. IN 1810 HE WAS RECOMMENDED TO THE GOVERNOR AS ONE OF A GROUP QUALIFIED TO SERVE ON THE COUNTY COURT BUT WAS NOT APPOINTED.
