Notes - !BIRTH-MARRIAGE: "Thomas Powell..." was born in Henry VA on a Grassy Creek
Plantation in the Marrowbone area. When John's grandfather obtained apatent
for 648 acres in this place 16 Feb 1771 it was know as Pittsylvania. In1776/7
it became Henry. It was prime land just east of Horsepasture Creek andwithin a
short distance of "The Great Wagon Road". Sometime around 1797 John andhis
wife Nancy acquired 350 acres on Rocky Creek in Baldwin, GA. This wouldhave
had to be before 10 Dec 1807 because the area became Morgan, GA at thattime.
1829 John fell on hard times. On 5 May 1829, Shriff Reuben Mann had tosell the
land at public auction. John and his family appear in the records ofCoweta
around 1835. In the 1850 Coweta Census he is listed as a farmer but he was
running a wooshop and shoe shop and was a Tax Commissioner.
