Notes - .James moved to Kentucky in 1837.. He married the daughter of a slave holder, Name Unknown, who died young, leaving him with two small children, James and Nancy. Soon after his first wife's death, Soon after his wifes death James lost all of his property including a dam and a saw mill in a flood.
On July 2, Clarinda Evans became James Montgomery's second wife, at second wife, at West Liberty, Kentucky. Unable to accept the institution of slavery, in 1852, Montgomery moved his wife and five children further west. They lived in Pike County, Missouri for a year, where his eighth year, where his eighth child, Julia was born. Unhappy at living in a state committed to slavery, they again moved west, to Jackson County, Missouri in 1853 to wait for the opening of Kansas Territory to settlers... LINN COUNTY, KANSAS- A HISTORY, by William Ansel Mitchell, copyright 1928.
(CMSI data recorder's note: Date of death is shown as 1885, 14 years after death. Data also shows he was buried in a National Cemetery, so it is possible that his body was moved from the original burial site to the National Cemetery. Will ask submitter for clarification.)
