No. 15545, LAND OFFICE at Natchitoches, LA, 10/15/1859. NatchitochesParish, State of Louisiana, on this day purchased of the Register of thisoffice, the Lot or South East 1/4 North West 1/4 of Section No. 1 inTownship No. 5 of Range No. 8 containing 39.75 acres, at the rate of .50per acre, amounting to $19.87, for which Alexander Montgomery has madepayment in full as required by law. On 9/11/1860 Alexander completes a"Sworn Declaration and Corroborating Affidavit" and states "there is adwelling house on the land with no other improvements". On the same day,William G. Airhart completes a "Corroborating Affidavit" stating thatAlexander has been residing on the land since 8/21/1860. Source:National Archives, Land Entry Files.
6/7/1887, The land is sold by the Tax Collector to W. K. Taylor for$10.97 cash for 1886 taxes that were not paid.
It is possible, though not proven, that Alexander participated in theCivil War and may have been a casualty never returning home.
Nothing further is known about Alexander and at this point, he continuesto be a mystery.
