  • Notes
    • It is reported in the U.E. records of New Brunsdwick The Frederickson Branch of U.E. Loyalist families that Old Alexander was an "aged" petitioner" and two sons were singlemen, that they came from New Yokr in the first embarkation.
In another petition dated July 1786, he told of having three sons of an age to act for themselves. It was signed 30 March 1786 and said he was residing in Sunbury County, N.B. His claim was for a lot in the center of Spencer Town, 1000 acres in Albancy County and six small lots in town. It claimed he had nine children, eight of them are named but he did not mention his daughter, Jane. John who was aboard a Brithis gun boat during the Revolution. I believe, since they later mention that 1. John came to N.B. but moved to York, now Ontarior about 1799, that a mistake was made and John must have moved back down to Albany Co. (a Dr. David Montgomery has traced his line up from a John living in Albany Co. and settling in Stonemont-Roxborough, Upper Canana after 1804 or 1808. Names all get confused with Alexander's line so believe it could have been Alexander Jrs. and Archibald's older brother. The children are not listed in any order so David is shown as the NO. 3, described as an infant (meaning under 21 years in 1786) and residing with his father in Sunbury, N.B. Hugh, at the age of 18 in 1786 is also referred to as an infant. Some one in error believed David may have died quite young but I had read in some other record that when Alexander Montgomery returned to New York because he was not getting any attention from his petitions, that he tookhis youngest son with him. It could well be that David then followed Hugh over to Vermont, which was not far if one went across the lake to Middlebury, Vt. He had numerous children with his wife, Phoebe Stickney but the names of all are not known. Nancy is a descendant of youngest daughter, Mary b.Abt 1813.She married Luke Woodbury Saunders who died in 1847 Whitman Mission Massacre, Washington state. His wife married again and she died in 1885 in California.
